The upcoming season of the Netflix-distributed series Arcane will feature the debut of three new champions from the Runeterra realm, much to the delight of fans of the show.

The action-adventure show’s producers and co-creators, Christian “Praeco” Linke and Alex Yee, along with the production team, have confirmed the newest addition, which is said to elevate the series to new heights. Released in November 2019, Arcane is based on the widely popular multiplayer video game ‘League of Legends’ which currently has 162 champions for players to choose from.

Designed and published by Riot Games, League of Legends, popularly referred to as ‘League’ by gamers worldwide, is a free-to-play, multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game that has gained critical acclaim from fans and industry experts alike since its launch in 2009. In addition to becoming the most popular e-sport overall, League of Legends also boasts a massive international competitive scene with 12 different leagues. The League of Legends World Championship is the high point for these regional competitions. With a peak of 44 million viewers at once during the finals, the 2019 world championship attracted more than 100 million online viewers. The 2021 championships were carried out from 5 October to 6 November in Reykjavík, Iceland, with several fans and new Australian betting sites, including Unibet, rooting for Edward Gaming of China’s LPL, which bagged a victory over defending champions DWG KIA of Korea’s LCK, to win their first ever World Championship title. As the science-fiction video game soars in popularity, it has inspired several spin-offs in the form of music videos, mobile games, collectable card games, merchandise, and its own hit show Arcane.

In the first season of Arcane, just ten of the League’s champions made their debut, including Vi, Jinx, Ekko, Singed, and Caitlyn, among others. Jinx and Vi, two sisters, drive the action of Arcane, which takes place in the progressive and innovative metropolis of Piltover. The animated series also delves into the backstory of some of League of Legends’ most popular champions, revealing how they came to be and how they plan to use their abilities. Due to the dramatic ending of season 1, viewers of Arcane are counting down the days till the start of season 2.

Writer Amanda Overton, much to the delight of eager fans, stated in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) on the Arcane subreddit that season 2 will take up where season 1 left off, giving viewers an opportunity to learn more about the origins of Warwick. Fans can also look forward to flashbacks of Silco being a dad to Powder when he initially took her in, as well as scenes with Vander from before the two became adversaries. Orianna is another hero who will soon be appearing on your screen. She has been dubbed the “Lady of Clockwork” because her entire body is a mechanical timepiece powered by hextech. In the same Reddit thread, Overton also revealed that there would be a discussion on Janna at some time during the second season.

Arcane’s compelling fantasy-fuelled storyline and stunning visuals, combined with a captivating soundtrack featuring music legends like Sting, Ramsey, and Imagine Dragons, have made the series tremendously popular among League fans as well as regular viewers. The retro-futuristic show with a steampunk aesthetic broke Netflix’s record for the highest-rated series in its first week, and it also climbed up the Netflix Top 10 Chart in 52 countries. With the addition of new champions, improved aesthetics, dramatic plot twists, and cutting-edge action sequences, season 2 of Arcane promises to be nothing short of a masterpiece.
