Fortnite by Epic Games is an online video game released in 2017. If you are a typical user, you may have noticed that Fortnite keeps crashing on your PC.

It has become a persistent problem lately that is very irritating.

Your biggest concern must be how to fix the crashes on your PC. We will show you how via the steps we outline in this article.fortnite-crash-pc-fix

Fix Fortnite Crashing on your PC

Fortnite could crash on your PC for myriad reasons. A few to mention are temperature, drivers, and overclocks.

To confirm whether your computer could be the problem, try playing other graphically intense games on your PC.

Do this for at least an hour and note any crashes. Try playing different games on your PC for a considerable period to be sure of the source of your crash.

If you are having issues playing these games, too, your computer needs fixing.

On the flip side, if the game doesn’t crash, then Fortnite has a problem.

However, to start you off on the right footing, we outline the minimum requirements your PC needs to run Fortnite sufficiently.

We also let you know how you can verify the requirements for Fortnite on your PC.

Basic Requirements for Running Fortnite on your PC

Check out the following specs to determine if Fortnite can run on your PC with no crashes.

    •  Intel HD 4000 video card. If you are using a Mac, you need the Intel Iris Pro 5200 or later.
    •   Core i3-3225 3.3 GHz processor
    •   4 GB RAM of memory
    •   Windows 7/8/10 64-bit OS. For Mac, you need OS Mojave 10.14.6

Note that for Mac users, your computer must support metal API.

How to check if your PC Meets the Basic System Requirements

If you are using Windows 10, for example,

    •   Click Start on your PC
    •   Click the Settings icon or scroll down to it on the pop-up menu.
    •   Click on the System option.
    •   Scroll to the bottom of the menu and click About
    •   Check your system summary by reviewing your processor type, operating system, and memory. They should meet or exceed the above requirements.
    •   To check your video card specs, open Settings.
    •   Click Display
    •   Head over to the Multiple Display settings and click Advanced Display Settings
    •   Under Display information, confirm your graphic card specs and manufacturer. It should meet or exceed Intel HD 4000.

If your PC meets the minimum requirements for running Fortnite, you can install and enjoy the game.

However, other factors may cause crashes, as well. Let’s take a deeper dive.

Troubleshooting Fortnite Crashes on your PC

    1. Run Epic Games Fortnite Launcher as an Administrator

Conduct a simple test on your Windows account to determine its sufficiency in playing a Fortnite game.

Head over to the Fortnite launcher on your PC. Right-click on the launcher and select Run as Administrator.

The game should operate smoothly on your PC; however, take charge of your PC folder through the following steps:

    •   Right-click on the Fortnite folder and choose Properties
    •   Pick on the Security tab and edit.
    •   Next, select your account and find out whether you have full control of your Fortnite folder.
    •   If you lack complete control, ensure to add before closing the windows.
    •   On the original window, select Advanced.
    •   Confirm owner at the top side of the new window
    •   Click on change and choose your account in the window that follows.
    •   Select OK. The system should make a change.
    •   Try playing Fortnite again.

    2. Change Fortnite Graphic Settings

Fortnite may crash on your PC because your game graphic settings are high.

To be sure about this, try lowering the graphic settings. On your PC, change your video resolution and see if this fixes your problem.

Here is how to find out your screen resolution on Windows 10:

    • Click the Start menu on your computer and choose Settings.
    • Click on Ease of Access on the panel.

    • Click on Additional Display Settings you will find on the Display section.

    • You will spot the Scale and Layout section. Here is where you find your screen resolution settings.

    • While the manufacturer recommends the default settings, you can select the drop-down menu and choose the resolution you prefer.
    • You may also lower the graphic quality settings to “Medium” or lower from the in-game Video Settings menu.

    3. Deactivate Timeout Detection

The timeout detection and recovery feature could be one reason Fortnite keeps crashing on your PC.

The setting may erroneously receive the signal that your graphic card has locked out. In response, it causes a crash.

    To turn off timeout detection:

    •   Create windows Restore point
    •   Press the Windows key on your PC followed by R
    •   Type the word “Regedit” and click Enter

    •   Double click on TdrLevel, give it ‘0’ value click OK.
    •   Turn off the registry editor and reboot your PC.
    •   Try out Fortnite again.

    4.Update GPU Drivers

Make sure that you have the latest stable drivers installed for your Graphics Card.

You may also do a clean install, which involves completely removing the outdated drivers before installing the latest one.

    5.Disable or lower CPU Overclocks

Overclocking your CPU requires extensive testing as each die has different stability characteristics.

If you are new to overclocking, we recommend completely disabling it as this might be causing stability issues and causing Fortnite to crash.

6.Do a clean reinstall of Fortnite

If everything else fails, this might be your last option.

We recommend completely removing Fortnite, deleting all the temporary files, and performing a registry cleanup using any of the free or paid tools out there.

Reinstalling the game again then should do the trick.

    Conclusion

Fixing Fortnite on your PC isn’t rocket science.

With the steps outlined, you can play Fortnite on your PC again without having to worry about crashes.

Review each step and find which one works best for you.
