Once you get home from work, you should be able to switch off and start to relax, right? In theory, you should be able to, but in practice, many find themselves still thinking about work, and worrying about going back the next day. If that sounds like you, you’ll need to find some strategies to help you switch off. Here are some tips to get you started.

Tidy Up If You Work From Home

More people than ever are working from home, and finding that it’s difficult to switch off from work when all their work things are still in sight. A good way to handle this is to put everything away at the end of the day. If you have an office, shut the door and leave the room till tomorrow. If you work from the kitchen table, then move everything off it and put it out of sight. This helps you create a boundary between home and work, making things easier for you.

    Get Moving

This is a useful tip if you work a desk job or any job where you have to concentrate for long periods of time.  You don’t have to do anything that high energy in order to get that distance from work. Yoga and mobility work help a lot when it comes to relaxing. If you do need to get some physical distance from work, try going for a walk around the neighborhood at the end of the day.

    Talk To A Friend

Once you’ve finished work, it’s easy to start ruminating on what you need to do tomorrow. You can never fully relax if you’re doing this, so you need to find ways of distracting yourself. One very good way of doing this is to simply chat to a friend. Whether you’re doing it over the phone or at a coffee shop, catching up will make you feel good.

    Try Online Games

Online games are a great way to relax because they won’t let you think about things like work but you still won’t need to concentrate as hard as you do during the day. Online bingo, for example, is a great way to unwind and it is easy to learn. You can play along with others and chat as numbers are called out. You won’t just relax, you may just make some friends along the way too.

    Change Your Clothes

This is such a simple change, but it makes all the difference. Once you finish work for the day, change out of the clothes you were wearing. Pick out some loungewear, or a comfy pair of pj’s, in order to signify you’re done with work and help yourself relax. Even if you were wearing pj’s to work in if you change to another outfit it still works.

    Have A Bath

This is an excellent end-of-work treat, especially during the winter. Once you’re home from work, fill the bath up with all the bath treats you have and jump in. The hot water and a good book, or your favorite show on Netflix, are often enough to help you relax and welcome the evening.

    Try A Craft

Find yourself feeling lost without something to do in the evening? There are lots of different crafty things you can do to satisfy that need. For example, you can pick up cross-stitch, macramé, and painting kits that help you access your artistic side, and enable you to relax.

If you’re the kind of person who can’t switch off after a day of work, then you’ll want to try these tips out. There are lots of ways to unwind from work, so why not give them a try?
