The Halloween movies that you missed this year are always available for you to catch up on. We have highlighted the best ones to watch with your friends and family at any time, just don’t forget the popcorn or your halloween costumes.

We have to start with the first film in this genre aptly named ‘Halloween’. A 1978 independent slasher picture, which has become a cult movie. Scored by John Carpenter and co-written by producer Debra Hill.

We have some more modern classics to talk about, like ‘Nightmare Before Christmas,’ a 1993 animation movie right through to ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ made in 2004. What do they all have in common? They are all Halloween movies with a twist.

Halloween 1978

The iconic movie was the first of 9 movies of the same name. The aptly named Halloween was the first movie in this genre and started a domino effect that produced hundreds of spin-offs.

The plot revolves around Michael Myers. Michael has been held inside a hospital for years only to escape and return to his hometown 20 years later to try and murder again.

Hocus Pocus 1993

Hocus Pocus is another excellent film for all horror/comedy lovers out there. This black comedy fantasy horror film is about three witch sisters. Max and his girlfriend Allison find themselves teaming up with a witch, Thackery Binx (pretending he’s dead), who was killed by the witches 300 years ago. Now they must stop them from stealing the souls of the dead.

Nightmare Before Christmas 1993

This stop motion musical fantasy film is everything you need for this Halloween season. Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town but doesn’t understand the concept.

Casper 1995

The live-action comedy fantasy horror film is about an evil ghost Casper. The Friendly Ghost fights with other spirits to keep his fearsome reputation by scaring humans. He ends up befriending a young woman named Kat Harvey and tries to get rid of his reputation for good. When he plans to marry Kat’s friend Carrigan Crittenden’s daughter, he must go to extremes to keep his reputation intact.

Paranorman 2012

It is about a misunderstood boy who can talk with the dead, trying to save his town from its curse of zombies. It is narrated by The Exorcist star Linda Blair and features the voices of John Goodman, Anna Kendrick, Jeff Garlin & Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Young Frankenstein 1974 / Mel Brooks

Young Frankenstein is one of our favorite horror movies of all time! In it, we have Dr Frederick Frankenstein – grandson of Victor Frankenstein – taking over his grandfather’s work. He creates a monster that eventually makes everyone run away from him. However, when he meets a young assistant, Igor, they help him create the perfect human, and Frederick renames himself, Victor.

Fright Night 1985

This vampire comedy horror film is about a teenager who suspects that his new neighbor may be a vampire. The only way to find out if this is true is to join in with Tom’s family by inviting them for dinner – but how much will he end up getting involved?

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil 2010

This is a great Halloween film for all those lovers of gore. It is about two hillbilly friends Tucker & Dale, who are mistaken for murderous psychopaths by a group of hippies camping near their homes. So now they must try to survive the weekend.

Life After Beth 2014

Another funny movie that you should watch on October 19th at 9:00 pm. It’s about a man who, after losing his girlfriend, starts to bond with her resurrected zombie. Still, they both have problems in the relationship when they realize she is becoming more human, by getting feelings for someone else.

Beetlejuice 1988

It’s one of Tim Burton’s best films! It features Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse, an obnoxious and magical ghost who terrorizes recently deceased couple Adam & Barbara Maitland ( Geena Davis & Alec Baldwin) after their house gets sold. He offers them help in haunting the family that has moved into their home, but when he overstays his welcome, they call upon the services of Betelgeuse’s “brother” to get rid of him for good.

Fright Night 2: New Blood 1998

This vampire action horror film is about Charley Brewster, a high school graduate and engaged to Amy Peterson. Still, when she becomes possessed by the vampiress that killed his mother, he enlists Peter Vincent (formerly played by Roddy McDowall) to help save her.

Edward Scissorhands 1990

A fantastic Johnny Depp movie about an unworldly innocent young man with scissors for hands who falls in love with a girl! The only problem? Everyone else who lives in the town thinks his hands are scary and wants him gone.

Warm Bodies 2013

This zombie comedy romance film is about a zombie named R (Nicholas Hoult). He is different to all the other zombies because he still has some of his memories and knows how to talk, plus he can eat regular food! 

He starts to fall for Julie and begins watching her from afar, but they discover feelings for each other when circumstances force them together.

Thing 2011

We love this horror/comedy film that stars Adrien Brody, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton. A group of scientists in Antarctica finds an alien life form that can imitate anything it touches, which causes problems when they decide to thaw it out.

The Frighteners 1996

We watch this hilarious horror/comedy every year – it stars Michael J Fox, Trini Alvarado, Peter Dobson & John Astin with Jeffrey Combs playing Death. It’s about a con artist/psychic who starts to see ghosts, so he teams up with Death to kill some of them for profit. Unfortunately, they have a history, and things get out of hand fast!

Shaun Of The Dead 2004

One of the best zombie romantic comedies ever made! A man is trying to win back his ex-girlfriend, so he plans on getting them both out of London because he thinks it’s easier for her to forget him there, but when the dead rise, things get complicated.
