A child, aged 4 year, living at the Riverside County recently succumbed to illness caused due to the flu. This particular death in California led to a hike in the total influenza death toll to 52 for the season. The child’s name wasn’t released publicly by the officials.
She wasn’t detected with any other underlying health ailments and wasn’t vaccinated to play fair against the flu disease as confirmed by Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the Riverside County Public Health Officer. This serves as a reminder of the fact that flu can kill, especially children that are susceptible to this illness, explained Kaiser in his statement.
This child who was from the Southwestern section of Riverside County actually died outside the area. The officials confirm that this influenza strain named H1N1 is actually very dangerous for the pregnant women and children. All over the nation, more than 16 children died pending flu attack. This number was confirmed on Friday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The season for flu works starting the month of October through the month of May. The health issues peak typically during the month of February. Cases of flu in California seem to be increasing a month prior in January. Officials have encouraged people to get vaccinated as it requires the vaccination at least 2 weeks to develop immunity.
